Robert Altman RIP

Well, we lost a good director yesterday. Robert Altman was never one of my faves, actually I think many of him films were way overrated, but the guy obviously had a ton of talent, was a huge influence on many of today's up & coming directors, and he'll be missed.

He made a lot of films that were about a place, a location, and not a central figure. Nashville best example. You could argue the city is the protagonist, uh, or may antagonist, in that movie.

I was in second grade when I saw Popeye in the theater and I remember bragging to the other kids at school about how I had just seen the new Robert Altman film.

The first time I knew of Robert Altman was when I saw "The Player", my personal favorite of his movies. He was out of the box as far as his movies went, but he kept things interesting. Think I'll watch "Short Cuts" this weekend on IFC.

If I had to chose, I'd say Short Cuts and the Player would be my faves, although neither would crack my top 100 of all time, still I respected the guy though.
