Good News!

A few months back I entered 2 screenplay contests, Fade In and The Screenplay Showcase Awards. Sent 2 screenplays to each, and this week I discovered:

One of my Fade In entries (they don't say which one) has been named a quarter-finalist. Yay! I think they announce semi-finalists next month. Fingers crossed!

And, another one of my scripts, A Couple Of Joes, was named one of the top 10 finalists for the Screenplay Showcase Awards (winner announced 3/17).

Sweet!

Next contests on my radar - Bluecat & Austin.

Congrats.

But I thought you were all anti-contest a while back.

Eddie,
'Tis true, I think many of the contests out there are pointless. And not that they're not run by well-meaning people, it's just that to get by some dopey readers could be damn near impossible, even if you have the best script ever.

They're a crap shoot. I mean, I made the top 10 of that one competition, but there coulda been 900 better scripts than mine that got passed over thet deserve to be in the top 10.

I don't know, man. If I knew the right damn thing to do I'd have Spielberg, Weir or Scorcese looking at my shit right now. I've certainly gotten more choosey regarding the competitions, not hitting everyone that comes down the turnpike.

Thing is, I skipped a bunch this past year (like Austin), thinking I had it made because of my option, etc, and look what happened....that company is kaput, and I should have at least sent a script or 2 to Austin.

I think they CAN be useful, if you get lucky as hell.

Whatever it takes to get a foot in the door, bro. I entered BlueCat for the first time this year, early bird deadline to get notes in time for Nicholl, and have mixed feelings about it. Some of the points in the notes were pretty good, but others contradicted themselves.

Hope you push through and win one or the other, or both.

I just want to land an agent so I can begin getting assignments, half decent paychecks in order to support myself in a new career writing fulltime... I discovered entering contests is not the way to go for that goal

CONGRATS!!!

You're right, MQ.

Also, regarding feedback, for most contests I take it with a grain of salt. A lot of times it misses the mark/point, but once in a while that grain of salt is useful.
