'Sup!

Updates - Finishing my LAST Food Fight re-write tonight and will e-mail it over to my manager. It kicks a whole lot of ass. Okay, it might not be the last re-write EVER, but it's the last one for now (the re-writes were based on my managers notes, now it's in amazing shape!).

And in about 5 weeks, we hope to go out with it. Why 5 weeks? 'Cause it's Summer, and he wants to take it out when it people aren't on their vacations, etc, which will be after Labor Day. Useless to send out a script if 50% of the people you want to read it ain't there!

Cricket Hill (pilot) is off to the director now, he's going to check out Acts 2 & 3 and after I get his notes, we'll lock down those acts. I got some good stuff in there, I'm pretty happy with it.

After all the Snakes On A Plane hype, how much do you think it'll actually make? I'm thinking not blockbuster money, more like the gross of a solid horror flick that opens semi-big then drops like a stone. Like, it'll make 20-25 in it's opening weekend, then sink to 10 the following and by the time it's out of theaters, maybe it'll clear 50-60. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. Besides the fun, trashy title, it looks like a pretty stupid movie that will fill it's opening weekend audience with college frat boys and internet hypesters (this is no 4 quadrant movie, like Pirates 2), then drop.

Two movies have truly caught my eyeballs, both coming in November. The first one is Stranger Than Fiction, which I've heard about for quite some time. Looks wonderful. And then, there's The Fountain. HOLY SHIT!! The trailer for that is simply amazing. If the movie's half as good, well, it'll be a pretty wild, beautiful ride. clcik on the movie titles below and you will go to joblo.com, both links have links to the trailers. Awesome stuff.

Your guess on Snakes sounds good to me -- how well it does will be a real indication of how valuable internet hype is as a marketing tool. I saw a trailer for it and was surprised to see them trying to play it as a straight action-thriller.

In addition to the ones you mentioned, I'm looking forward to The Prestige.

Yes - the Prestige looks excellent as well!

Am I the only person in the scribosphere -- okay, Western world -- who's not terribly jazzed about "Snakes on a Plane" as a title? Oh, well. Your box-office prediction sounds right on, though. And The Fountain looks amazing!

Patrick J. Rodio said...

Ryan - Not jazzed here either. Sure, it's a fun, trash title for a cheesy 70s era flick, but I'm not gonna waste my $$ on it. But when it hits HBO, I'm all over it! Unless something else is on.

Well Snakes'll be profitable, and I can't help but root for it because of its willingness to embrace its own stupidity. Also, know some people involved, so, rooting for them too.

Fountain? Well, it's Darren Aronofsky, and we GOTS to pay attention to what that guy does.

I agree that as long as it knows it's dumb, then that's cool. Still, I can't picture seeing it in a theater.

I predict Snakes will be atop the Netflix and BB Rental Lists for the year, seell-thru at retail will be through the roof.. action figures, Sat morning cartoon, ok maybe not that far

College frat boys? I knew there was a reason I couldn't wait for this movie to come out!

Here's a quick list off the top of my head (in addition to your movies)

The Last Kiss
The Prestige
The Departed
Children of Men

Patrick J. Rodio said...

Yeah, The Departed looks good. Hopefully it'll deliver.

On the above blog, I just noticed on the latest post about high concept ideas that he quoted this one:

FOOD FIGHT is a family comedy about a fastidious celebrity chef who volunteers to teach children how to cook.

Either someone is using the same title as yours which is fine, it happens, but do you need/want to change your before it goes out fi this is not yours, or are you now getting quoted by the in people :)

Hope it's the latter! Just thought I would give you a heads up, I nearly missed it.

cheers
Dave

Just a coincidence, and in the VERY near future, my Food Fight will actually be getting read and sent around H-Wood. If this other Food Fight is just a logline posting, then I'm not worried in the least.

In his post he had that one listed under the In-Development, not just a logline/concept. That's why I thought you might like to know. If it is already in production with that title.........just a thought.
cheers
Dave.

It's not, my manager is all over that kind of shit like a...well, a fly on shit! The only other Food Fight is an animated movie. He'd know if another one was in production, and if it is, and it's some low budget indie flick (nothing wrong with that, just saying) it's still not going to be a problem. Thanks for the info, though, I'll keep an eye out!
