Idiotic Sequels

First, thanks for the replies/suggestions on Headshot. Good stuff there, lots to think on. I honestly like the story as it unfolds, but see that the logline needs revamping first of all. I know in my logline & synopsis, it's mostly about the Extra/Killer, and I need to make sure I bring the Screenwriter (Our Hero) more in focus.

And now, these direct-to-dvd pieces of shit that basically piss all over the original movies, although most were garbage to begin with. I'm talking about that Roadhouse 2. 8mm 2 (Both with Jonathon "Where The Hell Did My Career Go?" Schaech). I also heard there's gonna be a Cutting Edge 2 (What the hell is the point?? It's got basically NO name recognition with the original ice skating epic!!).

Also: Legally Blonde 3, Into the Blue 2, Wargames 2 (actually a remake would be a better idea I think), Species 4. And I know there's another I Know What You Did Last Summer coming, I think it's called: I'M POSITIVE THAT YOU MAY HAVE DONE SOMETHING NEGATIVE IN THE RECENT PAST THAT YOU SHALL BE KILLED FOR.

Disney morons were guilty of this before the Pixar merger. They had Bambi 2, Cinderella 2 The Revenge, Leroy (!) and Stitch, and recently another Brother Bear, and of course their Alladins & Lion Kings 3.5 or whatever.

At least Disney seems to be stopping the madness after BB2, but are these other shit-flicks necessary? Will you really go out and rent 8mm 2? The first one bombed, remember? How could Part 2 possibly make any money? Christ, and all of us are out here still struggling with all these "ideas" coming out of Hollywood?

I don't know, I'd give my left arm to get paid to write a direct to DVD sequel. But I know what you mean.

But really, can any of them be worse than The Exorcist 2?

Wild Things 2 & 3 might as well have been direct-to-Cinemax soft porn. I thought one was enough, but I guess somebody needed to get paid. Starship Troopers 2 was an insult to my intelligence.

I think Disney knew that kids will watch ANYTHING, so they took their properties and made shitty direct to DVD stories based on their hit franchises.

After Die Hard 2: Die Harder, I now understand that a sequel can be made from ANY movie. I'm anxiously awaiting Field of Dreams Forever.

The direct-to-video market is just the hard evidence that this whole business is about making money. It's about brand name marketing. People will watch any WILD THINGS sequel because the name implies certain scenes will occur. That's pretty much how all sequels work anyway, the direct-to-video is just done on a smaller budget with less critically acclaimed films. I mean, as much fun as Pirates of the Carib 2 was, was it needed? After working at Suncoast for three years I can tell you that people WILL buy 8mm 2 and Roadhouse 2. There's a market for those films, not much of one, but that's why they're so cheaply made to begin with.

William Goldman described sequels as whore's movies... I think direct-to-video sequels just aren't as high class as a summer blockbuster sequel.

There is a news piece about direct to DVD sequels on the IMDB. I think Brother Bear 3 isn't too far off.

How about "I don't give a damn what you did last summer or any other summer so please quit dying to tell me"?

Go for it, Quill -- Liz Berkley is getting a little long in the tooth for pole-dancing, anyway.
