All Over The Place

Usually, I've got a few scripts open and sorta pop back and forth between them, depending on my mood that day.

Now I'm a mess.

I've narrowed my screenplays down to 2 (that I want to work on). No, wait. 3. Krikey.

One is Bloom (tentative title, we discussed this a few posts ago, and thanks for the input). The other is Temp'd, which is my little crime comedy of sorts. The other is Westville, about love, friendship and odometers.

And now, my books.

Yeah, books.

One is a memoir. Yeah, everybody's got one. Well, so do I, dammit. The other 2 are adaptations of screenplays. Cricket Hill (2nd place comedy at Austin in 2003 - For those of you down there this year, good luck and have fun). The other is Brightsword, which is a fantasy comedy.

I decided to work backwards on these (as opposed to adapting a novel) because:

A. I had bad writer's blockage.
B. Cricket Hill is a hard sell as a feature-script, and is better suited as a TV series (tried that 3 years ago until the company that optioned it went belly-up), or a novel.

But its too much to work on all at once, too much to think about. I know I have to focus on one (ok, maybe 2) so I can stop fartin' 'round and get at least one of these completed soon.

Very impressed by how many comedy scripts you've written, Patrick. A bit suprised too, as from my POV you come across as a very serious person.

Don't know how you do it, bouncing back-and-forth between scripts. I can only write one at a time. I find writing very consuming. It takes so much effort to make a working construct. AND in the past when I've tried writing several scripts at once I find ONE story always wins out and is the ONE I gravitate towards and pour my heart into.

Guess you're just more evolved than me. Maybe it's an east coast time-zone thing. Or perhaps those of us in Bonney Lake, are just more like those creatures on the left hand side of the good ol' evolutionary chart.

Anyway, whatever you decide to write, I'll bet is going to be awesome. Wish you all the best. And congradulations on your success at Austin. I'm impressed, AND a bit jealous...

if blogging and Facebook wasn't enough, consider real-time updating with Twitter. it attaches to your blog directly and you can just do tiny updates all day long instead of logging into the blog... trying it out

good luck on the scripts, I have mine down to 3 too

EC - Thanks, but I don't know if it's a good thing. I haven't had a major sale yet!

I'd say bouncing around might take the focus off of a particular script, although sometimes it helps having more than 1 or 2 to turn to if I'm stuck on one. Although sometimes it's good to get blocked then unblock yourself and push forward. I dunno.

MQ - Thanks for the tip, I'll give tia whirl.

Go Phillies!

Seeing as though your Phillies just won the world series, I was wondering is your celebration going to be bigger than their's when you sell a script?

P.S. I swear Ryan Howard's nostrils are so big you fit a pool ball in either one of 'em.
