t v land

Well, Fall TV is off and running. And actually looks pretty good so far.

LOVED LOVED LOVED the pilot for Studio 60. It's actually one of the best pilots I've seen. Perfect set up, great characters, sharp writing. I just hope people watch it. They might not be interested in a behind-the-scenes of a TV sketch show, but hopefully they'll tune in. Special nod to Matthew Perry. The whole cast is great, but he nailed it.

Kidnapped is bascially Ransom, or at least Ransom-ish. It's even got Delroy! But that's a good thing for the show. It wasn't as bad as it should have been. I am a bit curious to see where they'll go with it, so it's my guilty pleasure, although if it never came on again I wouldn't miss it.

Jericho was a pleasant surprise. It was a solid pilot, a bit creepy actually, since you could picture this going down in "real" life unfortunately. I'd tune in again to see where it goes.

Stand-Off is a smart show. Love the chemistry, although my concern would be having a stand-off/hostage situation EVERY week might get old. We'll see how the whole season unfolds.

Justice - not bad for yet another lawyer show. It's got a nice cast, decent writing so far, I'll tune in again.

Nip/Tuck - Sucks. I was a fan of this show, but last year was disjointed, and this year is already sucking pretty hard. It's like the writers are just throwing ideas up on a wall for the hell of it. I'll tune in for 1 or 2 more episodes, but if it doesn't improve, I'm bailing.

Shark - not going to watch it. I just can't.

Looking forward to 30 Rock, and am curious about The 9. Not sure about 6 degrees, and am pretty sure Heroes won't make it to the mid season.

As for returning shows, It's all about The Office in our house. Great show, funniest on TV. Weeds, too. Weeds is off to a great start this season, can't wait for the next episode.

I watched the Studio 60 pilot twice & easily it's the best new show. You couldn't have said it any better about Matthew Perry - he nailed it! Also, the opening scene with Judd Hirsch was simply one of the single greatest scenes ever. I never I thought I would say this about Timothy Busfield (can't stand him), but this should tell you how much I like this show. He is cast in a very likable part, movies or TV, for the first time that I can remember.
I've enjoyed Justice thus far. The cast is pretty good & the stories so far have been interesting.
I've got Kidnapped & Shark set up on the DVR, but I couldn't bring myself to watch Jericho. It just seemed a bit "too" dark for me. 30 Rock & The 9 are on my list as well, but I am looking forward to The Office.

Good point about Justice. Even if they win, it'd be neat to see at the end when the "truth" is revealed that one of their clients is actually guilty.

Jericho is dark, and it's gonna get darker it seems.

Thanks for the heads up on Studio 60 and Stand off! Sounds very interesting.

You didn't miss "Smith" right? If you did, you should take a look at it. Greatest cast ever.

The shows I watch constantly without missing are Prison Break, Justice, Smith and Family Guy. Will probably welcome Sudio 60. And I'm waiting on Lost and 24.

Wow that's a lot, cause ironically I hated tv-shows few years back. Damn Lost!

Also watched Studio 60 and really liked it. The only negative I saw (which was a fairly big one for me) was that Perry's ex-girlfriend kinda sucked. She wasn't nearly hot enough, or remotely funny enough, to be believable as a) his girlfriend or b) the star of SNL. Add in the fact that Sorkin made her all into religion and you have what could become a show-killing character.

But, hey, that's just what I think (although I am never wrong).

OK, now I've watched Studio 60 and thought it was too slow in the beginning. But that changes directly when Perry and his partner enters the picture.

Great and smart dialogue, funny, funny, funny!!

Hope they keep the same feeling up in the rest of the episodes.

Agree with screenwriting guy too.

agree, Studio 60 is the best.. only thing about Jericho that bothered me was they needed the nuclear blast to be more dramatic, to me it just came off as a puff of smoke "oh well, whatever"... Smith has potential but I am already getting tired of the wife's suspicions of him... and I liked Shark heh

Studio 60 is relying on the charisma of the cast and the speed of the dialog to succeed.

It's working for me so far. But I don't know if it can hold up, especially when 99% of America could care less about how a TV show is run.

SW Guy nailed it: Harriet sucks. The show is in troulbe if she has to do any heavy lifting. The character and Sarah Paulson are both suffering from being surrounded by such strong characters/actors.

And enough of the queer high fives, hand gestures and pre-show circle jerks. And I mean queer in the full fourth grade recess way. I haven't seen that kind of stuff since high school drama club.

Besides Studio 60, I'm waiting for 24, The Nine and the (hopefully) triumphant return of Lost.

Between now and then, I'm focused on the Phillies!
