Also, I was reading someone's post on another blog (forget who and where) and they were discussing digital quality and seeing movies in 3d,a nd how all movies will eventually be shown in 3D. Really? Perfect? No way. Flawed? Most certainly. Do I care? Naw. That was one heck of an adventure.MaryAn Batchellorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02465966881051431143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18449304.post-1156127404777667532006-08-20T19:30:00.000-07:002006-08-20T19:30:00.000-07:00Tavis -- I think Half-Nelson would have suffered t...Tavis -- I think Half-Nelson would have suffered the same disappointing numbers as Bubble did if it had opened multi-format because it's just as small. No one knows who Ryan Gosling is outside a certain age group or independent minded moviegoers who have been waiting to see this film since Sundance. I think the only way they're gonna really start a multi-format explosion is if they release a huge blockbuster... which the studio doesn't need to do.

I do think you're right though that SoaP could have cashed in on the multi-format release but at the end of the day, to get a huge opening weekend, you need a huge audience and SoaP was betting way too much on a target audience to deliver.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18449304.post-1156096324522755902006-08-20T10:52:00.000-07:002006-08-20T10:52:00.000-07:00Now they're only estimating $13.8 for the weekend ...Now they're only estimating $13.8 for the weekend ($15.2 if you count Thursday night). I bet SoaP would have opened huge on DVD, as well as earning a decent amount at the box office. I think it was only the hard-core SoaP fans that went to see it in the theater. The rest of us who are intersted in seeing, yet don't want to spend $10 to see it in a theater that inundates us with commercials and crap food, will have to wait for DVD. And you know what, my interest may have just waned by then.

And there's Half-Nelson. A movie I would go see. Alas, it is only playing in limited realease. Another movie, along with Little Miss Sunshine, which I think would have also benefited by the multi-format release.

Oh well, here's to wishful thinking that maybe one day we can watch whatever movie we want whenever we want as soon as it becomes available.Tavishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10931940066917820034noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18449304.post-1156091342857841092006-08-20T09:29:00.000-07:002006-08-20T09:29:00.000-07:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Tavishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10931940066917820034noreply@blogger.com
